Designer Clothes or Designer me?
Have you ever been clothes shopping with someone who just had to have everything with a designer name? The trainers, the bag, the top, the trousers all have to have a name. And it has to be seen.
But why? I am me. If you dress me in a purple top, pink shorts, green socks and polka dot shoes – I am me. And if you put me in the best and latest designer clothes – though I might look different I haven’t really changed. I’ve just decided I want to be seen and thought of in a different way. Like actors and actresses starring in different roles for different films. Still me, different look that’s all.
Now that’s easy if you know who you are, but suppose you don’t? Suppose you need the clothes to tell you what role you are playing? To tell you who you are and how much you are worth? That’s when the clothes begin to wear you. That’s the difference between being successful and a slave to someone else’s ideas of who and how you should be.
Why give someone you don’t even know the right to tell you what to wear, how to eat and who to be. Not me, I get to choose. I choose who I am and how I act because God says so. He has given me the right to choose.
So how should I use it? Should I follow the crowd? Should I lead the crowd? Can I do both? Well how about this – decide what kind of person you want to be and follow the path that gets you there, if some follow, great, if not still keep going. If all your friends want to walk with you fine, but if not it shouldn’t stop you. You see, you are on a big journey, an important path – it is shaping the rest of your life.
Much too important a trip to not give it serious thought. You can’t let your friends lead you this time - its up to you.
Who do you want to be? What do you want to achieve? And what do you need to do to be that kind of person?
Choose wisely and carefully. This is more important than money and popularity, clothes and cars. More than friends or family or power or passion. This is you, forever.
Why not get some advice from someone who knows? Someone who’s seen it all, someone with power, friends, wisdom and every good thing that you could ever want.
Isn’t that the kind of person whose advice you need? Isn’t that better than the celebrity of the moment or the singer of today? Don’t you need the advice of someone who will be there when it matters? Always?
Why not take God’s advice – he never changes and never gets it wrong.
“The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. “
Psalm 32:8 (NLT)
“ Yet I still belong to you;
you hold my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel,
leading me to a glorious destiny.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
I desire you more than anything on earth. “
Psalm 73:23-25 (NLT)
