Money Worries

Everyone says the same thing. “Don’t worry - things will be alright”.  But if you are suffering the all too real effects of the credit crunch then, although well meant, such sayings are nothing more than empty words.

Money has become the currency of our lives, if you can’t pay the bills, afford food and manage to meet your mortgage or rent payments then health and happiness can become remote ideals.

Worry is real, as is the fear, sleepless nights full of nightmare scenarios that run through your head. Letters become omens of doom and friends sometimes shy away or blame you personally for the impact on your life of trends in world finances that you really have no control over.

This is the time when you don’t need to be reading my views but need immediate reassurance, insightful guidance and practical help.

If nothing else has worked and no one else is there to turn to why not try prayer?  You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.  Put God to the test. Scream out for His help and see what happens next.

There is no magic formula no special words to say just ask God for help and wait and watch and jump on the opportunities that come your way.

Don’t turn away in hopeless despair – the devil wants you crushed and hopeless. No, instead dare to hope - pray, hold on and act like someone who knows help is on the way, perhaps from within you and perhaps from without but most definitely on the way.

Either way what have you got to lose?  What have you got to gain?

No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?

Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?

Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.

And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’

These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Matthew 6: 24-34 (NLT)

“I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the

secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with

plenty or little. For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the

strength I need.”

Philippians 4:12-13 (NLT)
