The Captors Choice

The allegation has been made that little Madeleine may have been killed by her parents. I don’t know if they did it or not, but something in me hopes it’s not true. The idea of a parent killing their child brings a deep sense of shock and horror. It seems so unnatural an idea that those we are designed to love and nurture; to take care off and protect; those who trust in us and our care so much can be so suddenly and brutally betrayed.  Such an extreme act for so small and vulnerable a victim. Who knows what really happened?

Yet there have been parents who have killed their children and, distasteful as it is, I suspect that the future may reveal more.

Life can bend people out of shape. Bad daydreams can turn into planned actions.  Strong negative feelings can be indulged and grown and suddenly be unleashed. The little child who wished for pretty nice things to happen can grow up and become the very person they would never have chosen to be.  It happens although no one but the devil wishes for it to be so.

People can be overwhelmed and so surrender to the bad company they keep. The thoughts they harbour, the feeling they nurture, the Devil’s ideas planted in their minds.  Choose good company for inside your mind, it’s not just about the friends you visit and the places you go.

The one thing I know is that God is good company on the inside of my mind and in every aspect of my life. He doesn’t overwhelm me. He doesn’t pressure me into becoming bent out of shape. He asks, He invites He gives me the chance to make good choices.  To make decisions that I and others can live with, to make memories that don’t leave me or my loved ones scarred.

I choose Him.

I choose Him now for today and for tomorrow.   What choice have you made?

“Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.”

3 John 1: 11 (NLT)
