How much do you know about the customs and traditions of Christmas?

Santa Claus

When we mention Christmas to Children the first thing they mention is Santa Claus or St. Nicholas/ Nick. There are many legends which exist around him but the most famous legend is told below.

Nicholas was a Bishop who lived in turkey who had a reputation for helping the poor and given secret gifts to the needy. The most famous story about him involved a poor man who had three daughters but because of his situation was unable to give them a dowry and hence they were not able to marry. Nick heard about their plight and decided to do something about it. One night he dropped a stocking filled with gold down the chimney and as a result, the eldest daughter was able to get married. He repeated this with the second daughter but by that time the father was curious to know who had been dropping the money so he hid by the fireplace every evening until he caught Nick. Nick asked him not to tell anyone but the secret still got out so anyone in the village who got a secret gift assumed that it was from St. Nick.

Because of Nicholas’ Kindness he was made a saint hence the name St. Nicholas

Christmas Crackers

Christmas Crackers were first made in 1950 in London by Tom Smith a sweet maker. He was sitting in front of his fire one night looking at the sparks coming from the flames when the idea occurred to him that his sweets could be opened in half when the wrappers were pulled in half. As a result, we have Christmas crackers.
