When my friend died

She was only three. She was going to be four soon, but she didn’t live that long. She had leukaemia. It made her very sick and too weak to do much. She had been sick for a long time. In fact she used to ask her mom if she would be able to walk and run like the other children because she had never been well enough to run.

I was sad when she died and I cried a lot. Then I got really angry because I didn’t think it was fair. She was only little, and she hadn’t done anything wrong, so why should she have cancer and die?

After a while I wasn’t so angry or sad anymore. Maybe I got used to the idea of her being dead but I still didn’t like it. This happened a long time ago and I am still sad that she is dead but her mom said something that made me feel better.

A week after my friend died, her mom said that she was sad her daughter had died but thought that maybe it was for the best because she wasn’t hurting anymore and that when Jesus came again He would make her alive again but without the Cancer so she could run and play with the other children at last. I like that idea. I also like that fact that God cares and is upset when we are sad or sick. He misses us if we die or stop talking to him.

So if something happens that makes you sad, remember me and remember that sadness doesn’t stay the same forever. The Bible says ‘ tell God all about the things that bother you because he cares for you’.
