THE FLOATING AXE HEAD
Have you ever tried to make a lump of iron float in a river or stream? It’s a very hard thing to do. Yes large ocean going liners will have iron on them and yachts might as well and yes they do float but just a lump of iron will not float. In fact it would take a power greater than ours to make it do so. So in my story when an axe head really did float it could only have been God doing it.
One day when Elisha was with the sons of the prophets they said to him. “Elisha we need to make this place where we live bigger put on a large extension so that we are not so crowded. Will you give is permission to go to
the River Jordan to cut down some trees so that we can make some large planks of wood to make the extension to our home?”
Elisha said “Yes you can make an extension you do need the extra room.”Then one of the young men said to Elisha “Would you come with us?”
“Yes I’ll come with you” said Elisha.
So off they went to the river Jordan and started to cut down trees. They all worked very hard that day cutting down trees and making the large planks of wood with which they planed to make the extension of their home. All of a sudden as one of the young men was chopping down a tree his axe head flew off and fell in the water. “Master the axe head has fallen in the water and I borrowed it to cut down the trees.”
Elisha said “Where did it fall?”
The young man said “Right there” and he pointed to the very spot where the axe head had entered the water.
Elisha cut off a stick and threw it into the water where the young man had said the axe head had fallen. As they watched the axe head started to float to the surface of the water. The young men couldn’t believe their eyes they had never seen anything like it.
Elisha said to the young man. “Pick it up for yourself.” So he reached out and picked it up. The young men were able to finish the work they had begun and the young man was able to return the axe to its owner.
God is able to accomplish anything He wishes. Even to helping this young man who wanted to help in the building of the extension of their home.
