Jesus loves sick people too

One day Jesus was busy with his friends walking to an important priest’s house. His daughter had died and he was very sad. He wanted to know if Jesus could help. He thought that maybe Jesus could make her alive again. People believed that Jesus could do anything and they were right. So off Jesus and his friends ( the disciples- remember) went. While they were walking along, a very shy lady saw him. “ there’s Jesus” she thought to herself, ‘I’ve heard about him – he can make sick people better’. She thought about it for a while because she was very sick. Not the kind of sickness that means you can’t go out or do anything and then you get better. No, she was sick all the time for twelve years? How old were you twelve years ago? Were you born yet? Just think she had been feeling unwell all that time.

Never feeling well enough to have a good time or laugh and relax with her friends- for twelve years. She had gone to see lots and lots of doctors- they all said important sounding things and gave her different medicines, and told her to do different things. So many doctors, and medicines, and treatments. She was tired of it, and still sick.

She had spent so much money on all the doctors and medicines, that she didn’t have any left. She didn’t know what to do next. She was too sick to work, but too poor to get more doctors to help. She was well enough to want friends but too sick for many friends to want to be with her. She wanted others to help and encourage her but was too ashamed to tell them what was wrong. She was having a horrible time. She must have been very sad and frightened and lonely inside.

She made up her mind, she couldn’t ask Jesus to help her – she was too shy, especially not in front of those people. But she did want to be better, very, very much and so she’d sneak up and beside him when no one was looking and touch him. She thought that aught to do it. After all, He was Jesus and he had healed lots of people so she knew he would heal her.

So just as he was passing she made her way to where he was, walked alongside him and ever so gently, touched his clothes and then turned to leave. She was safe, she had done it and no one would ever know….. her secret was safe and Jesus didn’t even need to know how bad she felt she was. Then she heard Jesus say “ who touched me?” Hello, lady, be happy, because you believed that I could help you, I have, You are well now. And she was! Just like that! And Jesus talking to her made her know that no matter how sick we are, or why or what other people say about our being sick, Jesus loves us just the same. He wants to help us and he is always interested in how we feel and what we are thinking.

So the next time you don’t feel well and are feeling sad or fed up remember Jesus is watching you and caring about you. If you want to talk to him, he will listen. It doesn’t matter how sick you are, or what with or why. He loves you and wants you to feel better in your heart as well as in your body. He accepts and loves you as you are. Isn’t he a great friend to have?
