The Forgotten Angel

There was an angel who led the way
Who put up with their grumbling and complaining every day
Through the desert, round and round, they caused him to go
Yet this angel kept on leading and caring for God had told him so

They hated the manna, tired of quail, demanded fresh water to drink
Never a thank you, never a compliment; of an angel’s might they didn’t think
They just murmured, quarrelled and messed up in everything they could
Each day testing an angel’s patience, testing to see if God was really good

Days quickly rolled to years, the elders died and new ones were borne
Yet they still doubt, they rebel and quarrel, their faces ever forlorn
Yet ever faithful the angel led them, still showing the steadfastness of God
And ever foolish the Israelites faltered, still showing they were made of sod

Yet he led them all the way as promised to the Promised Land
And on arrival did they thank him or rush to lend a hand?
Consider this angel, God’s own witness a testament to His ways
Never changing he stayed faithful an example to us for always

Do others test you? Sorely press you to forget your Father’s way?
Be like the angel, be like the Father, do only what they say
Ever constant, ever true, principles never left behind
If you serve Him, serve Him truly, be one of His kind
