Who would you rather be?
You can hurt me if you wish, it’s your wrath
But I choose how to respond, how to be
You can say cruel things, even strike out
But I decide to stay me, I follow my own path
Your real power is over you, not over the inner me
Tell me, which one of us would you rather be?
You speak of power, control and rage
I see weakness, insecurity and doubt
Do you think that hurting me strengthens you?
How little you see locked in your little cage
Always shouting, ranting, hitting out
Tell me which one of us would you rather be?
I choose to love, forgive and understand
My mind is at peace, my soul happy and still
I watch you, locked up inside desperately needing peace and rest
How I long to show you how to take His hand
The Healer can heal the rage inside, if you will
Stop, think, surrender – there is no test
Wouldn’t you rather be at peace like me?
Forgiveness means more than saying “it’s OK”
It means not pretending that it wasn’t wrong anyway
It means seeing the harm and hoping still
It means reaching out to help the hurter heal
Some will change, others will continue on their way
Forgiveness is unchanging, it stands come what may
An act of love or an act of will
It’s a choice that I make so no one my soul can steal
Tell me, wouldn’t you rather be me?
