Unconditional Love
Do you know what it means to love unconditionally?
To love when up, to love when down, to love whatever may be?
To love with all your heart, with no strings attached?
Do you even know the first step to loving like that?
Do you know how it feels to be loved come what may?
Through the storms and the pastures, whatever life throws your way?
To be loved not based on the things that you do.
Do you know anyone with that kind of love for you?
Can you understand how one could love unselfishly?
With no thought of gain, or of self, only of thee?
How could a person pour out and nurture and make your dreams come true,
When they know there is nothing even comparable you could do?
Does it occur to you your love is not what it should be?
When so great an example is hung up on Calvary?
Have you considered what it means to love and be kind?
And patient, and forgiving, and of pure and noble mind?
Is it even in a man to live like this? It’s not, some may say,
To love and to give with no thought of repay,
But Yahweh says in beholding it is change I shall reap,
So I empty my heart, commit my mind, and pray my God my soul to keep.
Do you know the kind of love that sets the soul free?
It’s the love my Lord bled out in Gethsemane.
Or the love that once known will never leave the same?
That’s the love Jesus showed when He bore all our pain.
Do you know one person on this bleak earth who
Could ever love so deep and pure and true?
Who could give their all and more and only yearn
For a place in your life and your love in return?
Is there one in your world who loves you like He?
The one who gave up His home in glory
To save what hated and spat in His face
And ridiculed Him while He died in their place.
O! What manner of love this is, my heart, my mind,
my soul does not comprehend!
But imagine a love that would be there from your beginning to your end
That would give an eternal lover, wonderful counsellor, faithful friend,
That would serve and protect, stand by and defend,
When you are so dirty and fallen it seems nothing can mend,
And when you realise there is none like it from man, and that is a fact,
Jesus says, “My child, I love you like that!”
