Apple and Blackberry Crumble

For the filling

5 large cooking Apples peeled, core removed and sliced
1 cup Blackberries
Sugar (to taste)
Grated ginger (1/2 an inch or ½ tsp powdered)

Cook the apples and blackberries in a covered pan on a low flame for a few minutes. Drain off the excess liquid. Add the sugar and grated ginger and mix in well. Place in a shallow dish.

For the crumble
1/2lb wholemeal flour
4ozs white flour
4 ounces oats
8 ounces sugar
8 ounces margarine
Sprinkle of nutmeg or cinnamon
Pumpkin and sunflower seeds for topping

Crumble everything together until it looks like breadcrumbs. Spread the crumble mix over the fruit evenly. Sprinkle the seeds on top of the crumble and bake in the middle of the oven gas mark 6 for about half an hour or until golden brown.

Works with other soft fruit or seed mixes too.
