Car Crash
It was winter and I was driving in the country side on a small dual carriageway. It was a road mainly used by heavy trucks as it fed directly into the motorway. Everyone was in a hurry and pushing the 50 mph speed limit. I was staying overnight at a management college and had decided to go refuel the car before dinner to save time in the morning. The road was covered in slushy snow and it was early evening and completely dark.
About 5 minutes down this road my car skid. I pulled it out of the skid and continued, it went into another skid almost right away, now I was skating on black ice. I tried to pull it out but I had lost control. I could see the barrier on my side with all the speeding trucks rushing past in a convoy on the other. Mine was just a little car. I looked around and all I could see was trucks behind me, beside me and in front of me. They were all so big and fully loaded and I felt so small and suddenly very, very fragile. All this noted in a second while I struggled to regain control. When I realised I couldn’t I tried to figure out what to do.
That was when I said “Lord help me, over to you” and let go of the wheel. Next thing I know my car continued its skid across the fast line, miraculously between trucks and climbed up onto the metal barrier that separated the two directions of traffic and came to a complete stop. There I was amazed, sat in a car that was a complete write off but perfectly safe balancing on two thin metal rails in between two fast lanes of heavy goods vehicles rushing along in poor visibility and bad weather.
I was in the only safe place on the road! Waiting for a gap in the traffic I jumped down out of my car (it was quiet a drop) and walked behind my car not sure what to do next. I couldn’t cross the road because it was just too fast and no one would be able to see me. I was stuck! “What do I do now?” Just then I looked up the road and saw a police car parked in a lay by and the policemen coming to help. They had been parked there all the time; they had seen the accident and stopped the traffic so I could cross.
They took me to the station, arranged for my car to be moved, gave me hot chocolate and sympathy and then carried back to the college.
Some people say it was crazy to trust God all I know is that it worked for me. I did all I could and that included knowing when I needed His help. He not only saved my life, but he took care of me after the accident through the kindness of the policemen. Every detail covered in His care. I even had to drive an automatic (for the first time) home the next day as no other hire cars were available. That too was a blessing as I was too nervous about driving an automatic to remember to worry about the accident or being on a motorway again.
Thank you Lord, for hearing my prayer, help me to live a life that praises you.
