How to pray

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phillipians 4:6-7 (NLT)

Out of work

I was out of work and didn’t have much money. I was trusting God to see me though but there were times when I worried about how long I might be out of work for and if my savings would be enough.  I decided to cut back on my grocery shop and to shop more flexibly while I asked God (nightly) to help me through.

Then I noticed that things weren’t the way they used to be. I found that I was living on several thousand a month less than I used to but that my life was pretty much the same.  I would go to the supermarket to buy food and find everything I needed was reduced. It seemed eerie so I decided that if something wasn’t reduced I should challenge myself to se if it was a want or a need.  Shopping trip after shopping trip I found that everything I needed would be reduced, often just for that day while other things remained the same price.

I had stopped eating out as often as I used to but then surprise, surprise I was sent an email with discount vouchers for one of my favourite places. A meal there would cost me half what it used to. Then when the voucher period ran out a club I belong to added it to their discount list. Could this all be coincidence or was it the answer to prayer?

My vacuum broke down - a new highly recommended one was reduced to more than half price.  My microwave stopped working and the morning after I began to wonder how I would replace it – it worked like new again.  Clothes, shoes, software anything and everything I needed graciously provided at a price I could afford.

Realising how things were working I would only look in the discount or sale sections sure the item I needed would have been placed there by my loving Heavenly Father. It always was.

I still pray daily and ask God to help me through and He always does.  God keeps His promises.
